Development[]
The roman Guard Tower was first shown through the Project Celeste forum post Weekly Blog #6: Auxilia Camp, Balearic Slinger, Guard Tower on June 29th, 2019.
- As per popular demand, here are the Age II and Age III versions of the Roman Guard Tower. We will be building four separate towers, though we expect that the Romans will only have upgrades to build the first three. The fourth tower will be available for the AI to use in quests, though. We also expect it to make an appearance in the City of Rome region.
During the July 6th, 2019 forum post Weekly Blog #7: Dock, Fishing Boat, Roman Wood the development team revealed another model for the Age II Guard Tower.
- A few days ago when we were fussing with the final Fishing Boat design to prepare for today’s post, we realized that its wood color was totally different than the color of the wood in some siege units [...] Upon closer inspection, we realized that each of the Original 6 civs have their own unique color and type of wood that tends to appear across the board in its Ships, Siege Units, and Buildings. But our Romans had all sorts of different colored wood everywhere.
The Stronghold and Keep towers ingame model were first revealed in Weekly Blog #24: Clinicus, Stronghold Tower (Age IV), Keep Tower forum post on December 7th, 2019. The Keep tower would not available regularly but only after a Roman specific advisor is selected.
- As you can see, the Norse and Babylonian civilizations do not even have a model for this Guard Tower tier, but that didn't stop us from making one for the Romans! (and potentially, for Norse and Babylonians as well, at some point). So this version of the Guard Tower will not be available to players in normal circumstances, for the sake of keeping consistency with the original game and to avoid having 2 upgrades for the same building in the same age. However, we intend to make it available in PvE through the use of a Roman-specific Advisor card. You can also expect the AI to have some in quests. And, of course, you will be able to play around with it in the editor and in offline mode.
