Analysis[]
Much like its War Elephant counterpart, its an intimidating beast of a Cavalry Archer, boasting high HP, high damage with splash and an impressive range to boot. On the other hand, its a very slow unit, moving as fast as most foot archers and therefore unable to escape any counter unit, as well as being harder to train in large lumbers as a fortress unit, on top of being one of the most expensive units in the game. It also lacks any kind of armor or snare resistance both innate and from the Champion Upgrade. In fact, it doesn't get any stronger from said upgrade, it just allows for more of them to be trained. Pretty much all of these downsides are addressed in PVP to some degree without really weakening the unit, which goes to show how much the unit actually struggles against skilled players.
HP: It has more than double the HP of any other high HP "Chariot Archer" unit [The Carpentom (350) and the Egyptian (280) + Babylonian (340) chariot archers].
RANGE: Their default attack range is equal to that of the Gastraphetes AFTER the Composite Bow upgrade.
AREA DAMAGE: The Elephant Archers are one of the very few ranged units with "area of effect" damage. The Carpentom needs a champion upgrade to get the same area damage as the Elephant Archer, and has 9 less range than the Elephant Archer by default and almost half the damage (28 vs 50) for what is 2 less pop before the Elephant Archer champion upgrade, and 1 less pop after. It is roughly comparable to the War Wagon.
COMPARED TO PERSIAN WAR WAGON: The Elephant Archers also has better stats than the War Wagon with the same pop cost (after champion), and 1 less splash range than it (2 less after War Wagon champion upgrade) while still having 325 more HP in PVE (270 more in PVP) after war wagon champion upgrade, while moving 1.5 speed faster and dealing 10 more damage in PVE (4 more in PVP).
COMPARED TO ADVISOR UNITS: The Elephant Archers are often overlooked, but considering that they are as powerful as an Advisor unit (Helepolis: EA gets more HP and higher pierce damage) (War Chariot: EA gets higher attack range and splash at cost of 1 additional pop. HP/Damage about the same as the common version) without needing an advisor.
