The Babylonians will be the fifth civilization released on Age of Empires Online. Formerly code-named as Annies, the Babylonians will be released on the one-year anniversary of the game's launch on August 16, 2012. [1][2]

Confirmed Information

  • The Babylonians will be a Pro Civilization. Like the Persians, this new civilization would require a premium purchase of 900 Empire Points and start at level 20, with quick access to Sparta PvP, Argos, and a few custom quests.
  • There will be a repeatable demo to try out the Babylonians before committing to the purchase (similar to Persia in Peril).
  • Gas Powered Games described the Babylonians as a "very economics focused civ". "Where they really shine is their ability to build a strong economy, and quickly."
  • A new unique unit called the Ox Cart will act as a mobile storehouse.
  • There are two new confirmed military units, the Shield Bearer and Lancer. The Shield Bearer will have high pierce armor, while being susceptible to anti-infantry units. In a similar sense to Woad Raiders, Lancers are anti-infantry cavalry that can rush into enemy units once they get into range.
  • Unique structures for the Babylonians will include the Ziggurat and Garden. The Ziggurat can train priests and research useful upgrades. The Pharmacology technology can be researched at the building to give military units health regen per second. Gardens are unlocked in the Silver Age, and can improve training and research speed. The Cultivation technology can be researched at the Ziggurat to make the gardens produce a food trickle.
  • Babylonian villagers will be able to make clay walls out of wood, which will be quicker to build but less durable.
  • Aging up will be via constructing buildings, in a similar way to the Egyptians
